Founded in January 2021, Colby's Crew Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing horses from the slaughter pipeline and offering them a second chance at life. The inspiration behind Colby's Crew Rescue came from the rescue of Colby, a horse who was saved from slaughter in August 2020. Abused, neglected, and terrified of humans, the horse's transformation into a trusting and affectionate companion through the care of his trainer, Ally, became the spark for a larger mission.
The core mission of Colby’s Crew Rescue is to intercept horses on the brink of slaughter, many of whom are bought at auctions for low prices or acquired from buyers who would otherwise send them to slaughterhouses in Mexico or Canada. These horses are either nursed back to health for adoption or, when their suffering cannot be alleviated, granted a humane and peaceful passing through veterinarian-assisted euthanasia.
Colby's Crew Rescue is compassionate in its operations. Regardless of how much hope the horse has for survival, it is treated with dignity and care.
